     He was a postmaster in 1879 at Dufferin, Manitoba, Canada.7
     Research Note: Richard appears to be a soldier who came to Manitoba (Ruperts Land) about 1847 and settled there. (29 December 2011.)

    This was the first post office in the Rural Municipality of Dufferin. Richard Salter was the only postmaster before it closed when the railway came to Carman. This sign was erected in 2003 by the Carman-Dufferin Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee.
