He Born in the locality known as the Crum Elbow Precinct of the Nine Partners Patent, in Duchess County (original name, not a misspelling) of the New York Colony of England. This locality was named the Charlotte in 1762, and was part of the land absorbed into the Clinton Precinct in 1786, which became the Town of Clinton, NY in 1789. The Town of Pleasant Valley was created from a portion of the Town of Clinton in 1821. The area formerly known as Crum Elbow and Charlotte is now the hamlet of Pleasant Valley. (This history of locality names was compiled by Charles Scott Doty and should be subject of additional verification and research before accepted as fact.)

"It is reported that during the time immediately leading up to the Revolutionary War, Ormond Doty lived at or in the vicinity of Albany, New York, that he was a British loyalist and was imprisoned in Albany for some time on this charge but at the intercession of his brothers, who were patriots, he was released on the condition of going to Wallingford, Vermont, at that time a wilderness. He removed there with his family, where they settled and remained."
