     Garton Dewitt UEL was born before 3 June 1739 at Kingston, Ulster, New York, America, son of Andries C. Dewitt and Bregjan Bridget Nottingham. Garton Dewitt UEL was baptized on 3 June 1739 at Old Dutch Church, Kingston, Ulster, New York, America.2 He married Phoebe Waterman on 30 May 1762 at Marbletown, Ulster, New York, America.3 Garton Dewitt UEL died on 3 June 1793.4
     He was described as six foot one inch in 1780. He began military service on 22 May 1780.5 He ended military service in 1782 at Machiche, Canada.6 He immigrated in 1783 to Canada.7 He Biographical Fragments from the Montreal Loyalist Compensation Hearings: Part Two: Refugees of New York and Pennsylvania :

Garton DeWitt had a farm on the Delaware River when the war began. Born in the Thirteen Colonies, DeWitt did what he could to help British scouts until rebels burned his property and forced him to hide in the forest "for some time". Nathan Parke, a friend of DeWitt's, testified on his behalf. A native of Connecticut, Parke had to abandon his land, furniture, utensils, and a loom to seek sanctuary, but not all of his losses could be attributed to the rebels. Colonel Butler's regiment had taken Parke's livestock to feed the king's soldiers. in 1783. He ended military service on 6 June 1784 at Cornwall Twp, Stormont, Ontario, Canada.8 He petitioned for a land grant at Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario, Canada on 26 October 1797.9 He petitioned for a land grant at an unknown place on 2 January 1798; Certificate for family lands insufficient.
